ESWATINI HANDBALL LADIES FOR CAMEROON CHAMPIONSHIP
MBABANE – The Eswatini Handball ladies team is still hopeful that they will take part in the Cameroon African women’s handball Championship in June.
However, the country’s participation will be determined by the evolution of the coronavirus as confirmed by Eswatini Handball Association Secretary Muzi Mamba.
“We are not sure of our participation my brother depending on the COVID-19 situation,’’ said the secretary briefly.
Meanwhile, the competition was initially scheduled for December last year but due to the spread of the virus, the world suspended all sporting activities and the African Handball Federation had to postpone the African women’s handball Championship 2020 in Cameroon. The move was supported by the International Handball Federation (IHF) at which Eswatini also affiliates. Announcing the postponement and the new proposed dates for the tournament, continental handball federation highlighted that the tournament, which should have been held in the capital city of Yaounde between December 2 and 12, 2020, was postponed for June 11 to 20 2021.
The CAHB had also postponed the youth championships, which were actually scheduled for September. The 27th edition of the Under-20s African Championship is now scheduled to take place from December 6th to 12th in Morocco. The Under-18s African Championship will be played in Morocco between December 13-19. Meanwhile, the country is also looking forward to sending a team for the next International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy. The IHF Inter-Continental Trophy has been organised by the IHF since 2011. It is a biennial tournament played among emerging nations in under-21 (junior) and under-19 (youth) categories.
The 2019 IHF Inter-Continental Trophy was the fourth edition of the competition held in Pristina, Kosovo from April 10 to 14 2019. It featured a men’s youth (U-19) tournament and a men’s junior (U-21) tournament.
Mamba said they were waiting for updates on the proposed dates of the tournament.
