DOMINIC CALLS FELIX, ‘FIGA’ FOR AFCON QUALIFIERS
MBABANE – It is a major boost for the national team, Sihlangu, ahead of their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifier against Guinea Bissau and Senegal.
The nation’s pride Head Coach, Dominic Kunene, has called up DStv Premiership side TS Galaxy duo Felix Badenhorst and Justice ‘Figa’ Figuareido to join the Sihlangu camp. The Eswatini internationals were left out of the 24-member squad released by the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) on Sunday, which has been on camp at the Lobamba Technical Centre since Wednesday.
Preparations
According to the football mother body communiqué, the Senior Men’s National Team’s (Sihlangu’s) Head Coach, Kunene, has selected a list of 24 players in preparations for the Total AFCON Qualifier matches between Guinea Bissau and Senegal respectively. Sihlangu will play against Guinea Bissau in a venue that is yet to be announced on Friday, March 26 2021 and four days later play against Senegal in Dakar. The players are said to have reported for camp on Tuesday to undergo medical check-ups, including testing for COVID-19, where a few are alleged to have tested positive for the virus.
Badenhorst and Figa have had limited game time of late at TS Galaxy with the latter struggling from an injury. Kunene was asked if the omission of the duo from the provisional squad was based on the fact that they have been less active, but he said he was in a meeting and responded briefly. “Both players have been called up to the national team.”
