VIRTUAL AGM FOR ATHLETICS ESWATINI
MBABANE – Technology will come in handy for Athletics Eswatini (AE) as they host their annual general meeting (AGM).
The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, starting at 9am and each member is expected to register two officials that will take part in the AGM. AE Public Relations Officer (PRO) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini announced yesterday. AE is the latest association to announce plans to stage the annual meeting remotely. This is after the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) successful XXIV General Assembly on Sunday that was held virtually. Dlamini, who was part of that meeting, said they had no choice but to capitalise on using technology as EOCGA led the way. The country is currently under partial lockdown whereby gatherings or events are suspended and there are no exceptions for sports, except for Sihlangu that was given the green light to continue training as they have international matches ahead.
lockdown
The acting Prime Minister, Themba Masuku, added another two weeks of the partial lockdown last Thursday. Governing bodies in sport have been forced to use video technology to hold key meetings during the coronavirus pandemic, which has restricted travel and prompted the governments to ban mass gatherings. “The AE Board decided to continue with the meeting virtually as the country is currently under a partial lockdown. We urge teams to send the two members as early as possible as those to attend will have to be taken through the system on how it operates,” he said. AE were among the lucky associations as they were able to hold their AGM physically last year in November in Manzini.
