‘NEXT EFA PRESIDENT SHOULD UPLIFT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES’
MBABANE – New Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) Chairman Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini believes the next Eswatini Football Association (EFA) president must be somebody who will focus on development programmes.
The EFA is going to the polls in June this year and the most anticipated position to be filled will be the presidency position, in particular, after long-serving head honcho Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa officially steps down in the next 27 days after being elected Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) president. Expected to be vying for the EFA presidency position are namely Comfort Shongwe, Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane, Mashumi Shongwe, Nichodemus ‘Ace’ Mashwama and Johannes ‘Ace’ Siboza.
Dlamini, in a wide-ranging interview yesterday, said it is a tough call to pick any of the EFA presidential hopefuls right now, but anyone who is elected has the duty to uplift the development programmes for sports. “For now, it is tough to say who can be a president from the available candidates unless all of them can tell us what their strategic plans are, but whosoever it is, it must be someone who can uplift development and also support the premier league teams,” Dlamini said. He said the days of electing a person based on face-value are over.
“Let them tell the delegates or write down what they intend to do for football,” he said. Dlamini said his biggest wish as chairman of the ESRC is to have offices for the organisation where they can accommodate all the sports associations. ‘I can only talk about short-term and long-term goals after we have met as a committee, but for me, my wish is to have offices for the organisation where we can have all sports associations under one roof,” he added.
