MBABANE – Congratulations are in order.

The news of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns boss Patrice Motsepe being elected as the new Confederation of African Football (CAF) President has been welcomed with massive excitement, not only in South Africa but the African continent in its entirety. The 43rd CAF General Assembly, which was an elective meeting, was held in Rabat, Morocco. Joining the celebration was one of Eswatini’s big three teams, Mbabane Highlanders FC, which, through their Facebook page, issued a statement congratulating Motsepe on his success. “Mbabane Highlanders would like to congratulate our new CAF President Patrice Motsepe. We know you are a huge part of Eswatini and this is not just about South Africa but the whole continent. You are a father of our soil and the father of this continent, which is ready to work with you. We believe you will change the African game for the greater good,” read the statement.
Interestingly, Motsepe’s successful election to CAF presidency coincided with Highlanders’ boss Ally Kgomongwe’s birthday, which was celebrated on Friday during the day of the elections, where the club’s fans shared their well wishes for Kgomongwe.

Mbabane Highlanders Public Relations Officer (PRO) Paul ‘Magidzeludzakeni’ Masilela said Motsepe now stood a better chance of becoming the future FIFA president, a position he would attain given that he gets undivided support from Africa. “We are so happy for Motsepe. As the CAF president, he is automatically the Vice President of FIFA and stands a better chance of becoming the next FIFA president. We pray that he works successfully for the development of the sport in the entire African continent,” said Masilela. He further urged all African countries to support Motsepe on his course with the hope that his success would guarantee his return to the crown.
