ALLY JUMPS, WE JUMP TOO – PLAYERS
MBABANE – Not all the players at Mbabane Highlanders would want to stay on after the departure of current South African boss, Chief Ally Kgomongwe.
Reacting to yesterday’s exclusive story in this publication that Kgomongwe was stepping down as their director as soon as next week, some of the players did not hide their displeasure and disbelief. The players’ names will deliberately be withheld for their protection. “It’s unbelievable, but then he knew when I signed that when he leaves, then there’ll be no reason for me to be in the team. Right now this is all just news as nothing has been conveyed to us and we are still getting our full salaries. I don’t want to believe he’d abandon us now when we have a squad that is seriously onto something big (sic),” said one of the new signings for this season while emphasising that perhaps they should not be panicking about the news.

Another who joined the club this season said for him, all will make sense when Kgomongwe says it to them or club management also confirms. “It’s not a good thing if he leaves now obviously so we can’t just believe it or say much for now until he officially tells us himself. Some of us signed because he was the director and so far we’re happy with everything except that we haven’t played football,” he said. One of the South African stars said that there was no need to panic as far as he was concerned as much as the news was disturbing. “The Chief brought us here to play and win trophies for Highlanders. That’s all we know at the moment and that he is our director,” he said.
Meanwhile, efforts to get striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa failed as he was currently with the senior national team, Sihlangu Semnikati. Ndzinisa is one of the players Kgomongwe signed when his career looked nearly over with a two-year suspension by the South African Football Association (SAFA). Kgomongwe signed him and followed up his suspension with SAFA, which the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) also checked before his call-up to the squad.

Meanwhile, Kgomongwe is into his second year of the five-year contract he signed as the club’s director and has delivered the Charity Cup trophy so far. It should also be pointed out that some of these players will also join Kgomongwe’s new team in South Africa if and when a status is successfully purchased in the GladAfrica Championship and DStv Premiership and they include Ndzinisa, South Africans Siphamandla Mlilo, Siphamandla Sangweni and Kenneth Moloto along with locals Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze and Gudas Dlamini. However, Kgomongwe said he would issue an official statement today to clear the air on the matter. The five-year contract he signed at Highlanders gives either party (Highlanders or Kgomongwe) the leeway to terminate any time by providing a three-month notice.
