MAXWELL IS ACTING EOCGA CEO

EZULWINI - Eswatini Olympic Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Vice-President Maxwell Jele is the new acting CEO of the organisation.

This was revealed by the newly-elected President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa during a press conference at Happy Valley Hotel yesterday. The announcement comes after the Executive Board of EOCGA held its Induction and Corporate Governance Retreat from Friday to yesterday. Jele is also the President of Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA). Mthethwa disclosed that the decision to appoint an acting CEO came after intensive deliberations they had undertaken during the sessions, including various developments and meetings prior to the Board retreat.

“The Contract of Employment of the CEO has expired. Through formal engagements with the President, the CEO has informed the Board of his intention not to seek renewal of his contract,” he said. “As such, the CEO’s last day in office shall be the 31st of March. Having said this, we are grateful that the Board retreat has given us an opportunity for a full debriefing and handover of ongoing and pending matters from the CEO’s office,” he added. He said the board wishes to express its gratitude to the CEO for the input and work he has done towards the upliftment of EOCGA during his time. He said he wished him all the best in his future endeavours.   

“In terms of a way forward, I am happy to inform the membership that the Board hereby appoints the Vice President, Maxwell Jele, as the Acting Secretary General in the interim. Mr. Jele shall oversee all administration duties until a new CEO is recruited,” he said. He said the Board appreciates the importance of filling the post CEO as a matter of urgency, and as such, the Board intends to trigger the recruitment process as soon as possible. He also highlighted that as reported in the recently held AGM, the construction of EOCGA offices at OlympAfrica Centre in Lobamba is ongoing. This project is anticipated to be complete by end of May 2021.

Meanwhile, Former Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President, Pearl Dlamini will lead Team Eswatini in the Olympic games. This was announced by Eswatini Olympics Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa during a press conference at Happy Valley Hotel yesterday. Dlamini is the executive member of EOCGA and was recently announced as a member of the AIBA Commission.  “One of the urgent matters that the Board is ceased with is the issue of the upcoming Olympic Games popularly known as TOKYO 2020.
