MBABANE – Deliver or jump ship.

That is the ultimatum Moneni Pirates management has reportedly given their Zimbabwe-born Managing Director (MD) Advocate Nqobizitha Mlilo. This is barely three months since the ‘buccaneers’ of Moneni officially unveiled the South Africa-based law practitioner as the new director of the club at the George Hotel in Manzini. During the occasion, Mlilo said players were the most important asset of a team and though he did not commit on the salaries issue, he said he was committed to keeping them happy by swiftly addressing any challenges they came across. These were the same sentiments he shared recently with local media stating that he would rather overpay than underpaying.

Example

He made an example that if the agreement with a player was that he would be paid 50 cents on a certain date; rather pay them E2 on the date agreed upon instead of doing the opposite.
Information gathered by this publication is to the effect that he had not lived up to his promises as players and staff reportedly have not been paid since his arrival in December. “He has not spent a cent since arrival in December. It is true that management has given him a 48-hour ultimatum to address these issues,” confided a highly-placed source. Asked on what management ought to do if the director did not address the challenges in the 48-hours, sources said management would take a decision today. Mlilo was given the ultimatum on Friday, meaning the ultimatum elapsed yesterday. Pirates Chairman Osborne Nzima was reached for comment and did not deny the news but referred all questions to Mlilo. “I cannot comment, please contact the director himself,” said Nzima.

Amused

Failure to pay salaries since arrival, sources claimed this has not amused supporters to the extent that they were ready to get another director. Unconfirmed reports were to the effect that there was already a potential director from South Africa who is renowned in the football circles and in the country. However, it all depended on the salaries issue otherwise ‘there was the first official’ meeting on Friday with the South African businessman.
