BEEHIVE LEAGUE!
MBABANE - Like a swarm of bees, their sting is deadly and painful at the same time.
Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows left the Prince of Wales dumbfounded yesterday after being sent to the cleaners by elite league rookies Tinyosi FC in emphatic fashion as well. If truth be told, the premier league newcomers were full value for their 2-0 win in this game. For good measure, they are on top of the MTN log standings this morning – with eight points and a single point ahead of Mbabane Swallows which put Green Mamba to the sword with a 3-0 defeat - with four games played in what promises to be an intriguing 2020/2021 MTN league competition. No wonder Tinyosi astute coach Sfiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane was smiling from ear-to-ear at the sound of the final whistle by lady referee Letticia Viana.
Haunt
Having come on as a substitute to haunt his former club Mbabane Highlanders last Friday at Mavuso Sports Centre, Tinyosi’s stocky striker Mphucuko ‘Smoothies’ Dlamini was in the starting line up this time and it proved a spot on decision by Ntibane as the ever-dangerous striker proved the architect of Black Swallows’ downfall with another productive display. He gave a ‘man of the match’ performance, scoring the opener for his team before setting up the second scored by Njabulo Gama. He was a constant menace throughout the game for the opposition defence and it was a matter of time before he was rewarded for his hard work - what a player!
To their credit, Black Swallows did not play badly at all, but their opponents proved better at the end.
The Pigg’s Peak based outfit started well and never sat back to defend as they threw everything to find goals, but trusted striker Mbuso Mabuza, brother of Mbabane Swallows’ Allen, seemed to have left his scoring boots at home in this game after misfiring a number of gilt-edged scoring chances. He should have scored in 41st minute, but with the gaping net in front of him, his shot hit the upright, much to the dismay of his club’s bench and officials...a close miss indeed. At the other end, Tinyosi were pushing numbers in search of goals with Smoothies and former Manzini Wanderers and Moneni Pirates’ forward Lwazi ‘Shumi’ Mamba leading the attack. ‘Smoothies’ saved a goalbound shot by Swallows’ Mabuza on goalline in the 25th minute.
