The 16 MTN Premier League and the 14 National First Division League clubs have until May 31 to submit licence applications with all outlined appropriate documentation to EFA under the Club Licensing Committee (FIB) Chaired by Elphas Ngcamphalala. During his presentation to the Board of Governors meeting yesterday, Ngcamphalala said the FIB would analyse the applications and verify authenticity, including spot checks.

According to the Football International Federations Association (FIFA), club licensing is a key tool for professionalising clubs and leagues. It uses principle-based criteria and sets minimum standards which clubs must satisfy in order to be licensed and, consequently, be able to participate in a given competition. “All premier league clubs as expected must comply with relevant statutory requirements in regards to the five criteria. The five main requirements are sporting, infrastructure, administrative and personnel, finance and legal,” he said.
Ngcamphalala said they would be doing the spot checks because in the past some teams submitted fake documents. The FIB has until June 30 to submit to CAF and they would have to also submit the teams to represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup and they CAF Champions League. PLE Chairman Mark Carmichael said they are yet to discuss the criteria to use when selecting the representatives. The EswatiniBank Cup that has the CAF Confederations Cup tickets is postponed this season while the MTN Premier League is expected to finish way beyond the deadline of June 30. Carmichael said clubs that would represent the country in the CAF inter-clubs completions would have to full comply with the CAF club licensing conditions.
