ASSAULTED
NHLANGANO – He was left battered and bruised.
That is Manzini Wanderers official Lemmy Dube, who was allegedly assaulted by cops on Saturday during the Royal Leopard MTN Premier Legaue clash against Manzini Wanderers played at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium. Dube’s offence was to walk behind Leopard team bus during the second half of the match and he claimed he was from the toilet. The assault came when Wanderers were frustrating Leopard who wanted a win to take home the E350 000 MTN Premier League first round incentive.
Lost
Leopard lost the top spot to Young Buffaloes who won 2-0 against Manzini Sea Birds at Prince of Wales Sports Ground. Dube alleged that two of the police ensemble officials who cannot be named for now as they had not been officially charged, assaulted him with fists and open hands on the face and head. He sustained some injuries as he developed a bump on the head and was also bleeding on his mouth. “The toilets at King Sobhuza II Stadium are on the other side of the dressing rooms. When I was coming back from the toilets, two Leopard officials attacked me and they assaulted me for no apparent reason. I still do not understand why I was assaulted,” he said. Dube said he was yet to consider the injuries otherwise he would have loved to open an assault case with the Nhlangano police. It was not gathered by yesterday if Dube had reported the matter to the police or not.
doubt
Dube added that he doubted if the match official noted the incident as it happened behind the dressing rooms and the game was ongoing. If the match official noted the incident, Leopard may face the Disciplinary Committee (DC). According to the 2020/ 21 MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations, Article 7: c) Assaulting a referee, PLE official, player, club official, marshal, supporter, fan, spectator or the use of excessive force shall be punished with a fine of not less than E40 000 by the DC. In addition, the offending club shall be ordered to compensate the victim for any financial losses incurred due to the assault.
incident
Meanwhile, Leopard Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube said he did not see the incident, but he will be investigating it as the maroon and white outfit have already raised it with them. “There is nothing much I can say concerning the matter, but we will meet with Manzini Wanderers over the matter as they raised it with the team,” he said. Wanderers PRO Mlungisi Ndzinisa said it was a matter that needed to be investigated, but he was not much aware of what really transpired.
