MVEMBILI POOL TOURNAMENT POSTPONED
MBABANE – The third edition of Mvembili Pool Tournament, which was slated for the coming weekend, has been postponed.
According to Charles Dlamini, who spoke on behalf of the sponsor, the reason they postponed the tournament was because the family next to their venue was bereaved. The third edition was supposed to take place on July 17, 2021. “There will be a funeral next to where we play and by tradition we have to respect that,’’ he said. When asked whether the players’ preparations were not affected by the pro-democracy protests which were witnessed in the country over the past week, Dlamini said there were none such in their community. Most games and tournaments in the country were disturbed by the unrest that took place in the country over a week ago.
‘’In this part of Eswatini we did not experience such protests, we only heard about it through the radio and newspapers,’’ he said. He said they were more than prepared for the games but unfortunately death struck in their community. Dlamini had promised that this edition was going to be bigger and better than the last edition. When asked how much this edition would be sponsored for, Dlamini said he could not reveal the figure for now. “We will be meeting with the sponsor today to discuss that,’’ he briefly said.
The winner of the previously E2 000 sponsored singles tournament was Delani Dlamini, who took home a sum of E500, a trophy and a gold medal, after beating Ciniso Mndzebele 7-1 in the finals, while the runner-up received E200 and a silver medal. The last edition was blessed by their constituency (Timphisini) Member of Parliament, Nelson Mamba, who bought food and drinks for the players and spectators. According to Charles Dlamini, the Banele Dlamini-sponsored tournament will now be staged on July 24, 2021 at the same venue, KaMhambi and the registration fee is E20 per player.
