E180K SALARIES HEADACHE!

MBABANE – Old habits die hard.

This adage holds true for Manzini Wanderers, whose players have allegedly not been paid salaries amounting to E180 000 for the month of June. The Wanderers players have allegedly not been attending any training sessions for the past two weeks due to the unpaid salaries and allegedly threatened not to attend tomorrow’s MTN league clash against Milling Hot Spurs at Mavuso Sports Centre. Manzini Wanderers Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mlungisi Ndzinisa confirmed that the players did not attend training sessions last week because they are owed salaries for June. “The players did not report for training the whole week due to salary problems,’’ Ndzinisa said. He, however, said after meeting the players yesterday at the club’s training base in Malkerns, they had since reached an agreement and the team would resume training today.

handout

Ndzinisa said they had tried to give some players money to buy food and other necessities but he was quick to state that this was not a salary but a handout due to the current financial challenges they were facing. “It is really hard for us now to run the club and the situation is overcoming us,’’ he said.  When asked about the whereabouts of the Nelspruit based director, Cedric Mathatha, the PRO said he was in Europe.

overseas

“The director went overseas for medical reasons since he is not well,’’ he said. He, however, promised that upon his return from Europe the director would come back to sort out the financial challenges the team was currently facing. Ndzinisa further said the other reason they were meeting the players was to discuss the issue of their upcoming game against Milling Hot Spurs to be played tomorrow. “Though not all the players attended the meeting, the majority was there and we persuaded them to attend the game on Tuesday while we sort out the salaries issue,’’ he said. Some players, who preferred not to be named in fear of victimisation, said they last got paid in May and nothing reflected in their accounts in June. “I last got paid by the club in May and I received nothing last month,’’ one of the players said. Manzini Wanderers will lock horns with Milling Hot Spurs tomorrow at Mavuso Sports Centre, kick off time is 1pm.
