WANDERERS SEEK DOUBLE OVER HOT SPURS
MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers will have to put aside their financial struggles and focus on the challenge ahead, Milling Hot Spurs, if they are to realise their goal of finishing within the top four bracket in the MTN Premier League.
The past two weeks have not been good for the maroon and white outfit financially and players will head to today’s match not motivated due to unpaid salaries for last month. The team was also not able to train as usual due to the pro-democracy protests around the country. Wanderers are sitting fifth on the MTN Premier League log, two points behind fourth placed Mbabane Highlanders who have 42 points.
target
The club’s target, according to Coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe, is to finish within the top four and then improve next season. Wanderers reigned supreme in the first round fixture played on April 10, 2021, at the Mavuso Sports Centre where goals from Siphamandla Dhlamini and Fabrice Mopina earned Wanderers the maximum points with a 2-1 victory. Both teams are expected to have their full squad at their disposal as they both do not have players with the national team, Sihlangu, that is currently playing in the COSAFA Cup in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
positive
Wanderers will be hoping for positive results after forcing a 1-all draw against Green Mamba in their MTN Premier League game played at Mavuso Sports Centre on June 26. Hot Spurs won’t be a walk in the park for Wanderers despite trailing by 10 points.
They have proved in past matches that they can stand their ground against the big teams. In their last outing, they beat Manzini Sea Birds 1-0. They are currently lying in mid-table and need one victory to be guaranteed of safety from relegation. They have 30 points while all the eight teams below them can still mathematically reach the 30 points-mark.
