MBABANE CRICKET ENDS SEASON UNBEATEN
MALKERNS – Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA) teams played their last matches last Sunday where Mbabane Cricket ended the season unbeaten.
Sunday marked the last day for the cricket group stage matches of the ECA men’s T20 League, where in the morning match Dada’s XI locked horns with Sahi XI which was a very crucial match for Dada’s XI. They had to win this match by a bigger margin in order to obtain a better net run rate ahead of Sahi XI to qualify for the semi-finals. Dada’s XI won the toss and opted to bat first and managed to score 178/4 in their full quota of 18 overs, the highest run-scorer for Dada’s XI was Fazal Nanabawa with 44 runs off 38 balls who was also supported by Mohsin Bhariya (26 runs off 16 balls) and Safwan Bagas (28 runs from 18 balls). In pursuing the target, Sahi XI had a very good start with top-order batsmen Zahid Muhammad (43 runs from 29 balls) and Muhammad Ameen (99 runs not out), Sahi was comfortably cruising at 12 runs per over until the ninth over when Zahid was bowled by Abbas Ali.
Dada’s XI had to improve on the bowling to disable Sahi from getting dangerously closer to the target, Muhammad Ameen, who was resistant to Dada’s XI aggressive bowling attack, enabled Sahi XI to reach the target in 17.3 overs thus recording a 6-wicket victory. On the other hand, in the afternoon fixture Mbabane Cricket Club took on Indian Warriors and Indian Warriors won the toss and chose to bat first. Indian Warriors was all out in 18.5 overs with 158 runs on the scoreboard and Mbabane Cricket Club managed to reach the target in 17.4 overs, Mbabane Cricket Club won the match by four wickets. The semi-final will see MCC XI locking horns with Mbabane Cricket Club while Dada’s XI will take on Radio Shop Pak XI. ECA Secretary General (SG) Mandla Dlamini thanked all teams who were part of the tournament and further wished the best of luck to the semi-finalist teams. “I would like to congratulate the four team for making it to the semi-finals and I hope they will go back to the drawing board and do proper preparations for the next stages of the tournament. As the office, we are very grateful for the performance we have noticed from all the games that took place in the group stages,” said Dlamini.
