MAX GIVES SEAT TO ‘SWAZI BOLT’
MBABANE – He is the man of the moment.
That is sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa, who enjoyed the eight hour flight from Doha, Qatar to Johannesburg South Africa in Business Class. This follows a kind gesture from the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Vice President and Acting CEO Maxwell Jele. Jele, whose trip to and from the games is catered for by the International Olympics Committee (IOC), decided to give up his Business Class seat and sit in economy as he felt the real hero on this trip coming back home was ‘Swazi Bolt’.
Matsenjwa is the current celebrated hero in the country after clocking a new national record in a 200m race on August 3 at the Tokyo Olympic Games. He beat his record of 20:47 seconds down to 20:34 second and he was the first liSwati to reach the semi-finals of the Olympics in athletics. The Chef de Mission, Pearl Dlamini, confirmed the good news yesterday. “The heart of our CEO Maxwell Jele was touched when he looked back with so much pride what ‘Swazi Bolt’ had done for the country. He decided to give up his Business Class seat and sit in economy Class as we returned home,” she said.
Humble
Dlamini said she was touched by such acts of kindness and very few leaders would be humble enough to give up their own comfort for others. Thank you Jele. I pray for more humble leaders like you in our sports. With this spirit we will go far,” she said.
The team will arrive in the country this afternoon through the King Mswati III International Airport.
