SITSEBE PLAY ZAMBIA IN COSAFA OPENER
MBABANE – Eswatini Senior Women national team Sitsebe will open their 2021 Confederation of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) campaign against Zambia.
The 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship will be hosted by South Africa at Nelson Mandela Bay from September 28 to October 9 this year. Eswatini has been drawn with Zambia, Namibia and guest nation Uganda in Group C of the sub-regional competition. The local side has been a prominent team in this tournament for many years and their biggest win in the competition was a 4-0 against Angola in 2019 at the same stadium. Sitsebe’s biggest defeat at international level date back to 1993 at the hands of South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. They were humiliated with a 14-0 scoreline.
face
The Senior Women national team will face the Copper Queens, as the Zambian Women squad is fondly known, who are fresh from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan. The Copper Queens suffered the highest defeat by a Women’s team in Olympic history, which was a 10-3 defeat to Netherlands. The game for Eswatini against Zambia is slated for September 30. Sitsebe would then face COSAFA Women’s Champions guest, Uganda, three days later and finish off their group games with Namibia two days later.
camp
The senior ladies team is currently in a full-time camp in preparation for the upcoming 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship to be played in South Africa, Nelson Mandela Bay. Comments from Sitsebe head coach Dumsani ‘DU’ Makhanya proved futile as his phone rang unanswered.
