TOP FELA!
MBABANE - Mbabane Swallows attacking midfielder Felix Badenhorst is the highest paid player in the MTN Premier League.
According to highly trusted sources, the former AS Vita man is pocketing home a monthly salary of E17 500. Felix joined the ‘Birds’ from the now defunct Mbombela United in June this year. He also received a E100 000 signing on fee upon rejoining the red and white ensemble. The former TS Galaxy star has been earning this amount without kicking the ball following that he could not be registered at the time of his signing.
He had to wait for the 2020/21 season to finish before he could get to play. If fit, he will likely feature in Swallows’ opening league game against defending champions, Royal Leopard on October 23. “These figures I get from the teams as I work closely with them. Felix is the highest paid in the country,” said our source. Badernhorst declined to comment when contacted. “Salaries are a personal issue,” he said briefly.
The second highest paid is Mbabane Highlanders’ Captain and striker, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa who earns E17 000 per month. Ndzinisa who joined the ‘Black Bull’ at the start of the 2020/21 season was the league’s second top goal scorer with 19 goals. He scored almost half of Highlanders’ 41 league goals last season. Tied on the third spot on the list of highest paid players are trio of Mbabane Swallows’ Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu and Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze who are all on E15 000 monthly salary.
Royal Leopard striker Thabiso Mokenkoane is the sixth highest player in the league with a salary of E12 500 and he is closely followed by another Highlanders player Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze on E12 000. The highest paid coach is Swallows mentor Christopher Ennin on E20 000 and is closely followed by Green Mamba gaffer Caleb Ngwenya on E12 000. Manzini Wanderers coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe is third on E10 000.
