ONE GAME AT A TIME FOR US – ’LANDERS COACH
NHLANGANO – In the midst of the hyperbole celebrations that greeted another high-scoring win, Mbabane Highlanders head coach, Ernest Mavuso was modesty personified.
Mavuso had his feet firmly on the ground as Highlanders fans, at the back of their club taking pole position after the 4-2 win over Green Mamba here, started seeing their team as genuine title challengers. “It’s one game at a time, you can’t get ahead of yourself because there is a long way to go, but I am happy that the players are complementing what we do in training. I must give credit to the players, they are showing a lot of determination,” Mavuso said.
His counterpart at Green Mamba Dumsani ‘DU’ Makhanya, who faced his former employers for the first time, said his team allowed Highlanders too much room in the first half. “We allowed them to dominate the midfield in the first half and we were better in the second half as we also created a lot of scoring opportunities which sadly, we could not seize. There are a lot of positives I can take from this defeat because the fighting spirit is there,” Makhanya said.
The Correctional Services side could not withstand the intensity, verve and vitality of a swashbuckling Mbabane Highlanders who raced to a 2-0 first half lead here with South African striker Tony ‘Ben 10’ Machacha in particularly outstanding form and he walked away with the ‘man of the match’ award.
