RECREATION WINS TENNIS CLUB CHAMPS AGAIN
LOBAMBA – Their dominance of the Tennis Club Championships has soured for over five years.
That is Recreation Tennis Club, who were crowned the overall champions of the tournament which started on Saturday and ended yesterday afternoon at the Swaziland building Society (SBS) National Tennis Centre at Lobamba. Ezulwini Tennis Club coach Jerry fears was assigned as the tournament director. The champions (Recreation) took home the E5 000 ultimate prize and the runners-up, Acers team, pocketed E3 000. Correctional Services Tennis Club were placed third, bagging E2 000 and Matsapha Tennis club took the fourth prize of E1 000.

Armed with skill, agility and stamina, the mixed doubles team twinning Thulani Gina and Takhona Khumalo executed calculated points, beating Sakhile Hlophe and Tandzile Khumalo 6:3 6:2 in an intense match. The finals of the men’s doubles saw Thulani Gina and Sakhile Dludlu celebrating 3:6 6:4 10:5 against Bruce Gama and Sakhile Hlophe after three sets of heated encounter that stretched for nearly two hours.
Recreation’s Takhona Khumalo beat Acers’ Tandzile Khumalo 6:4 7:5 and Thulani Gina sank Zweli Mndzebele 6:0 6:2 in the men’s singles match. Acers’ player Bruce Gama won 6:0 6:7 and Andiswa Nsibande won third place for Matsapha Tennis Club after winning 6:3 6:1 against Correctional’s Trina Swanson. Pleased with the victory, Gina acknowledged the tough competition presented by their opposition in the finals. “It was a tough game against Bruce and Sakhile. Every time we play against Bruce and Sakhile, it’s always a war because we know each other’s’ strengths. Consistency in training and the fact that my partner and I trust each other, made it possible for us to win,” Gina said.
