LEOPARD, JS KABYLIE GAME TO PLAY DURING AFCON
MBABANE – Royal Leopard CAF Confederation Cup game against Algeria’s JS Kabylie will be played during the AFC ON Period.
The much eagerly awaited African Cup of Nations (AFCON) starts January 9 with the finals set for February 6 in Cameroon. Leopard and JS Kabylie second leg match has already been postponed twice due to the outbreak of the new COVID-19 variant, omicron, and there were travelling challenges.

A source close to the matter confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had requested to stage the match during that period. Leopard is due to travel with a 1-0 win advantage after winning the first leg played at the Mavuso Sports Centre on November 28 courtesy of Thabiso Mokenkoane’s first half goal.
Leopard Public Relations Officer (PRO) Frank Hurube said they will continue with their preparation and they will be ready to play when CAF announces the dates.
“We are going to remain ready and the team did not enjoy much of the festive holidays as we were working hard. We are playing Tambuti in the MTN Premier league and they are not an easy side but we have to fight for victory as these games are also assisting us in our preparations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Leopard will go to their second leg match knowing their opponents in the group stages if they qualified. According to cafonline, the draw for 2021-22 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup group stage will take place today at CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, starting at 13:00 local time (11:00 GMT). The draw will divide the 16 teams that reached the group stages into groups of four teams each. The mini-league stage will start in February 2022.
