‘BOMBER’ QUESTIONED ON CEO MAXWELL JELE’S APPOINTMENT

EZULWINI – The appointment of Maxwell Jele to assume the position of EOCGA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from acting vice president was brought under critical scrutiny by members of the association.

This was prior to the elections process which was the last item on the agenda during the 24th General Assembly of the Association. Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini brought to the table the issue of Jele’s appointment, arguing that the position should have been advertised.

holes

Dlamini punched holes on the executive board for taking and implementing decisions without notifying the association’s members. “We expected that the position would be advertised. We are not doubting the credentials of the secretary general, but it’s the manner in which the process was done. Is it the precedence we want to set? Mr president, we are not being exemplary if we take big decisions simply because we say someone was available for the job. We hope you are taking this as a lesson and remember that we are being watched by the international community,” Dlamini said.

He further said the Board should have made a recommendation the consult with the association’s members before endorsing Jele as the CEO. “Once you make a recommendation, you should then ask the members for approval,” he said. Humbled by the meeting’s critics, the president admitted guilty and thanked the members for cautioning him and his board.
He said this was a learning curve going forward. “Let me take this opportunity to appreciate all of you and your participation even though some of you had the guts to tell me where to back off. As members of the board, we have benefitted from and we take this as a lesson that will help us do things the right way going forward,” Mthethwa said. This was Mthethwa’s first General Assembly after his election last year that forced him to give up his position as Eswatini Football Association’s President (EFA) after a combined 24 years in charge.
