MBABANE – It is now official – Eswatini will be represented in the upcoming All Africa Pool Association (AAPA) Blackball Championships in Zambia.

The tournament starts on March 4-6 and Eswatini will have senior men and ladies squads. “The Sports Council has confirmed our participation in Zambia and we’re so grateful for the help they gave us in paying for our affiliation and participation fees to AAPA. We have fully registered for the tournament,” Eswatini Cue Sports Association (ECSA) President Muntu Dlamini excitedly said. Dlamini explained a sum of about E25 000 was paid to AAPA, courtesy of the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC).

“The deadline for payment of the fees was initially December 31 last year, but AAPA extended as most of the nations that had indicated their interest to participate had not paid up. We’re excited to confirm we’re going to Zambia and aim to leave the country around March 1 as we’ve also been assured of transport by our government,” Dlamini explained. ECSA Secretary Mbongeni ‘Mdlikiza’ Gamedze reiterated the President’s words and added that they were also still out scouting for sponsors to cover other aspects of the trip and tournament particularly the teams’ uniforms, meals and accommodation among other things.

“We had our first practice session last Sunday at Police Academy in Matsapha and the attendance was impressive,” said Gamedze. Meanwhile, Correctional Services’ Flag Nxumalo and Royal Eswatini Police Service’s (REPS) Sithembiso ‘Dodge’ Matsebula are the coaches of the squads; the former is head while the latter assists him.
