MBABANE – A clash of times is set to prove costly for Correctional Services Pool Club who beat Malkerns-based Way Inn 13-9 over the weekend.

The two giants clashed at Correctional Services in Matsapha last Saturday afternoon, but their match started way after its scheduled kick-off of 2pm, instead resumed at 2:37pm. This was seven minutes after the stipulated grace period in the Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA)/Dixie’s International Pool League. The match clashed head-on with the Darts President’s Cup yet Correctional Services’ star player and pool senior national teams’ coach, Flag Nxumalo, was a competitor in the darts battle. He was even crowned the champion in his division after proving his talent and experience in the board game. Nxumalo is also the country’s darts association president. Due to his darts competition, his club did not want to start their match against Way Inn without him. This saw the rules being broken by Nxumalo’s team and will now appear before the MRPA Disciplinary Committee (DC) where they face a fine of E500 if found guilty.

“We also protested after seeing that Correctional kept us waiting until even the grace period was over. Flag was committed in the darts tournament where he also won, otherwise we still played the match as much as it started seven minutes later than initial time, which is why we played under protest and will await the DC to direct us on what happens next,” explained Way Inn Director Muntu Dlamini, who is also the Eswatini Cue Sports Association (ECSA) President. Dlamini said the rules require that should the DC find Correctional Services guilty, a replay should be ordered with hosting rights forfeited. Meanwhile, Way Inn confirmed the protest by paying E200.

Protest

MRPA Secretary Musa Dlamini, said they withheld results of the match due to the pending protest by Way Inn and the matter was already handed to the DC to handle. However, Correctional Services had won 13-9. The match now stands to be replayed at a neutral venue to be determined by the competitions committee. Meanwhile, leaders Manzini Masters continued with their fine run as they outclassed youthful Malkerns 13-7 while their brother team, Manzini Pool Club who won the second edition of the league also won 13-2 against rookies Ntontozi.
