SWALIMO CAUSES SCENE AHEAD OF LEOPARD/PIRATES CLASH
MBABANE – SWALIMO lived up to their word and staged a protest in Mbombela Stadium.
The Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) members were seen protesting along the premises of Mbombela Stadium, where the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup was played. Orlando Pirates played hosts to Royal Leopard. News of the scenes were already circulating on Twitter and Facebook late yesterday. Popular Television Anchor Robert Marawa also shared on twitter how he was shocked by the scenes. “There was a scene outside the Mbombela Stadium ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup game between Royal Leopard and Orlando Pirates. Fans say they are from the kingdom and will not allow Leopard into the venue in an effort to embarrass the King for his atrocities,” Marawa tweeted.

However the Leopard’s team bus did make it through to the Stadium after the police presence enabled access. The Liberation movement had confirmed on Saturday to this publication that they would stage a protest before the start of the game demanding CAF and FIFA to intervene and ban Royal Leopard from participation in these games. SWALIMO Secretary General Dr Siphetfo Dlamini had also highlighted in their five demands that they wanted the government of Eswatini to build a stadium and stop hosting games outside the country. Efforts to get a comment from SWALIMO SG, Dlamini proved futile as he was not reachable by the time of compiling this report. A message was sent to him which reflected that he had not read it.
Leopard PRO Frank Hurube was also not reachable by the time of compiling the report.
