BUFFS’ SCORE 4 PAST SEA BIRDS
SITEKI – A brace from Bongwa Matsebula inspired Young Buffaloes to a 4-0 emphatic win against a Manzini Sea Birds in a MTN Premier League game here yesterday.
Also coming to the party was goal poacher, Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze who netted his eighth goal with Lizwe Zwane also registering his name on the charts. The victory for Sabelo Mnisi-led charges saw them maintaining the third spot with 30 points while Sea Birds went down two places to the sixth spot with 26 points. This is after Vovovo and Mbabane Swallows recorded maximum points in their respective games yesterday. Vovovo beat Tinyosi 3-0 while Swallows inflicted 2-1 revenge at the expense of Green Mamba. Interestingly, despite that the scoreline was embarrassing for the away side, they did play their hearts out only to fail to convert the chances they created. Otherwise it a fairly balanced game, with Buffaloes sometimes upping their game and proving they wanted the game more.
Bongwa Matsebula broke the deadlock one minute after the quarter hour mark. This is after he broke through two defenders on the left flank and unleashed a powerful shot beating goalkeeper Bafana Ngwenya on the goalposts. The hosts were close to doubling matters but Fanelo ‘Order’ Mamba was unlucky when his header was denied by the woodwork three minutes from the half time. The visitors could have levelled matters through Muzi Tsabedze but his volley from close range was parried for a fruitless corner by goalkeeper Phumlane Ngobese two minutes from break.
Pressure
After resumption, the hosts continued to pile pressure and just six minutes after the half hour mark, they pounced on once again. It was through ‘Saviola’ who pulled home a Junior Mazibuko cross from the right flank giving Ngwenya no chance across the sticks. Just when the opponents were trying to re-group and were trying to reduce the deficit ,the hosts stretched the lead to 3-0.It was brace hero Matsebula who passed the ball into an empty net after receiving a telling pass from Fanelo Mamba with 21 minutes to go. Lizwe Zwane hit the last nail on the coffin when he scored the fourth goal tapping a cross from Sibonelo Sibandze cross two minutes before
