‘SIKHALI’ TO CAPTAIN SIHLANGU
MBABANE – In the absence of Lindo Mkhonta, Mbabane Highlanders striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa will take over the Eswatini national team Sihlangu’s arm band.
This will be during the first leg match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Preliminary Qualifiers. The first leg match will be played this afternoon at the Dar Es Salaam National Stadium, Tanzania, kick-off 3pm (local time). Sihlangu’s captain, Mkhonta, is serving a suspension after he got a red card in a match against Senegal during the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers match. The Young Buffaloes defender will return for the second leg match to be played on Sunday in South Africa.
Ndzinisa is not new to the duties of being captain as he does same at his side, Highlanders. He took over the arm band at the black and white outfit last season from Siphamandla Mlilo. He is also the leading goal scorer in the MTN Premier League with 16 goals so far in 17 matches out of 30. Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Officer, Muzi Radebe, confirmed yesterday that the technical bench decided to hand over the arm band to Ndzinisa in the absence of Mkhonta. “Lindo remained Sihlangu captain but in his absence, Ndzinisa took over and it is up to the coaches on how they deal with such situation,” he said. Radebe said the venue for the second leg is not yet confirmed. Sihlangu will hosts Somalia away from home due to poor playing facilities in the country as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banned Somhlolo National Stadium and the Mavuso Sports Centre on hosting games under the auspices.
