MBABANE – A Muzi ‘Mzoro’ Dlamini quadruple inspired Royal Leopard to a 6-2 victory over Vovovo.

This was during an MTN Premier League match played in the capital city yesterday before a crowd of over 100 football lovers. The police ensemble’s win did not just announce their return from Africa in style but they also reduced the gap to a point with log leaders, Mbabane Highlanders who have 43 points. The Edwin Matsebula-led side still have one game in hand before they catch up with Highlanders. Ingwe Mabalabala are fresh from playing their last Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup group stage game against JS Saoura of Algeria, where they lost 2-0 on Sunday. This result somehow made up for their six-game losing streak in Africa, where Orlando Pirates, Al-Ittihad qualified to the quarterfinals of the TOTALEnergies sponsored tournament.

Motivated

The visitors seemed to be motivated ahead of their league game as they attacked from the onset. Within the half-hour mark they had already scored three goals courtesy of man of the match ‘Mzoro’ and Bongani Dlamini. The former Highlanders man connected a Junior Magagula corner in the 17th minute to beat Vovovo’s Innocent Obodai across the goalposts.
‘Mzoro’ completed his brace nine minutes later after he benefitted from a goal mouth scramble after Junior had crossed the ball into the danger zone. Bongani made it 3-0 after tapping in from ‘Mzoro’s cross on the left flank on the half-hour mark.

Vovovo’s Bandile Shongwe reduced the deficit after rounding the goalkeeper Ncamiso ‘Mbhonyo’ Dlamini before firing home in an empty net, 3-1 two minutes later. ‘Mzoro’ was at it again netting a hat-trick after receiving a defence splitting pass from Barry Steenkamp, he hurled a powerful shot past the keeper in the 35th minute. The hosts were not giving it up yet as they scored to make it 4-2 six minutes before half time. This was after Simanga Masangane converted from the spot following a foul committed by leopard’s Thami Zulu on Mancoba Vilakati. Zulu, a former Vovovo player, was his debut game yesterday against his former team and it must have been a nightmare conceding a penalty on his first game. After resumption, the visitors continued from where they left, ‘Mzoro’ benefitted from a poor goalkeeping error after Obodai failed to deal with an easy short from Thabiso Mokenkoane just three minutes after the hour mark. He tapped into the empty net to complete his quadruple. The party was not over yet until Thokozani ‘Thikithi’ Dlamini hit the last nail on the coffin after finishing from Mokenkoane’s rebound shot with four minutes before referee Mbongeni Shongwe’s full time.
