E60 000 FOR MALOMA CUP
MBABANE - Eswatini coal giants, Maloma Colliery Limited, has splashed E60 000 prize money to be played for by soccer teams of the area.
Announcing the sponsorship, the Maloma Colliery representative, Mavela Sigwane, said the company was positively responding to, among many, requests received during the vusela exercises they had last month. The three benefitting chiefdoms are the Mamba, the Mngomezulu and the Dlamini clans under Chief Gasa WaNgwane. Sigwane said this was part of their initiative of giving back to the community. “We receive a catalogue of complaints and suggestions on how the company can interact better with these communities. As a new management, we are just appealing for a chance to improve where the previous management might have erroneously failed.
“We have reduced our response to five pillars namely; water and sanitation, health, SME development, Infrastructure improvement and education. Today’s initiative falls under the health and education pillar,” said Sigwane. The occasion was held on Sunday at Mconchwana Primary school at Lubulini. The occasion was graced by the presence of Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical Director Boy Mkhonta and legendary coach Fritz Seilbea.
workshop
It was preceded by a two-day soccer sensitising workshop conducted by Mkhonta, retired referee Ernest Dlamini, Coach Anthony Mdluli and Charles Mbingo, among others. Speaking at the event Mkhonta pledged to support the initiative by the company of associating itself with soccer at grassroots level. Mkhonta said upon receiving a request from the tournaments management committee, he was going to lobby the FA to bring down instructors on the four pillars of football administration, refereeing, medicine and coaching. According to an impeccable source, the tournament will start next week Friday, and eight teams are expected to play from each chiefdom.
“There are three chiefdoms; each shall have eight teams playing in the mini league home and away. The top five shall go and form a 16 team knockout with the addition of the best number six from the three groups to make it 16 teams, then it is a knockout to determine the Maloma Colliery champs. The Maloma Colliery cup finals will be held at Sithobela on December 23,” said the source.
