NGUDZE RUNS TO COPS AFTER 1AM GUNSHOTS
MBABANE – Tambankulu Callies boss, Sithembiso Ngudze Mamba has run to cops after gunshots were reportedly fired in the air in his presence during an argument.
The incident is said to have happened yesterday at around 1am just outside the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano. This is where Callies were to face Mbabane Swallows yesterday afternoon. Narrating the incident, Mamba said they got a tip-off from sources that there were ‘intruders’ at the playing venue, and he rushed to the scene. Notably, Callies were not hosts but visitors, as per the fixture programme from the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).
“When I arrived just at the scene I was asked what was I doing there. I replied that we were camped here in Nhlangano, so and I asked them what they were doing at this time. I then heard a gunshot from one of the people,” said Mamba. He said upon hearing the gunshots, he went on to report the matter to the police. “I think they were trying to scare me off, but I was not scared; I did what was right which was to report the matter to the authorities. I do not want to comment much,” he said.
Swallows’ Sandile Zwane could only confirm learning about the developments, but never linked the team to the shooting. This publication wanted to establish if they had anything to do with the scuffle and the shooting after the incident went viral on social media, especially Facebook. Meanwhile, Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that the shooting incident was reported to the Nhlangano Police. “Yes, we do have the report and the matter is being investigated,” Vilakati said.
