7 ATHLETES FOR AFRICA CHAMPIONSHIPS
MBABANE – After their sterling performance in the national championships, seven athletes are off to the Africa Athletics Championships billed for Mauritius next month.
The 22nd CAA African Athletics Championships will be held from June 8 to 12 at Côte D’Or National Sports Complex (Mauritius), where there are 45 events on the programme: 22 for men, 22 for women and one mixed event. The team features champions in 100m and 200m, Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa and Bongiwe Mahlalela. Both athletes were sensational and biggest winners in the Athletics Eswatini (AE) 2022 Track and Field National Championships held at Mavuso Sports Centre on Saturday. The duo is also bound for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
AE Communications Officer Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini announced the team yesterday. He said others included high jumper Erikah Seyama who was crowned high jump champion on Saturday, Mcebo Mkhaliphi, Banele Dlamini, Menzokuhle Msibi and Ayanda Malaza. The team will travel with Manzini Athletics Club (MAC) Coach Muzi Mabuza and Manager is Edward Ndlangamandla. “We are sending a team that is going to compete in Mauritius not just to add numbers. We are happy that they are travelling, having been put to test during the national championships where they conquered. We believe that they will make the country proud,’ he said.
