ANGLERS OFF TO SA TOURNEY
MBABANE – Anglers have left the country in hunt of the biggest bass.
The Eswatini Angling Association is sending a national team to compete in a two-man team bass fishing tournament against the Protea Team in South Africa. The tournament will be held at Driekoppies Dam that reaches into the northern part of Eswatini. It will be played from today until this coming Friday. There was a practice day yesterday followed by the three competition days. A gala will be held at Crocodile Lodge overlooking the Kruger National Park near Malelane.
The team of seasoned anglers is said to have been in preparation over the last eight weeks. “We are ready and excited to be able to represent Eswatini after a long period of isolation due to COVID-19 restrictions in this sport. “We are grateful to the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council who have welcomed and supported the association and the team in this event. We are aiming to bring back gold medals,” said President Derek Hopf. The country’s anglers are known for leaving a mark on the big stage. Team Eswatini defied all odds to claim a silver medal during the World Championships in Venezuela back in 2012.
