CYCLING NATIONAL CHAMPS ON SUNDAY
MBABANE- It is all systems go for cycling’s flagship event.
These are the National Road Championship. The country’s signature road race will be held at Mpaka along the Sikhuphe Road on Sunday, starting at 7am. This was disclosed by Cycling Eswatini Association (ECA) Secretary Mxolisi Shongwe yesterday. The race is divided into two categories. These are the 115km for elite men and the ladies, as well as juniors who will take on a 75km course. “We are grateful that the sport we love is picking up momentum and races are returning. This race is where we will see our current national champion Muzi Shabangu attempting to defend his title. He is fresh from the Rooi Winter Challenge Race with Kwanele Jele,” said Shongwe. He also highlighted that they were looking forward to seeing Dinize Wilsch defending her title as the reigning female road champion. Makepeace Bailey will be looking to defend his juniors’ title.

“As the cycling fraternity has been gradually active, it will be a very interesting race, as cyclists will be vying for the covted title of being a road champion. It will be fireworks from the word go as we anticipate tight competition,” added Shongwe. He also said the road championship winner would take home a national team kit and be refereed as the king of the road. Other road races that will be held this year include 4EVA Two Fast Two Furious, Mandla Simelane Road Classic, Nedbank Imvelo MTB Classic, MTN Khemani and Dups Newcom Wheels.
