MBABANE – They are out of the ‘Bull’ kraal.

That is the quartet of Sanele Mkhweli, Mlamuli ‘Mlaba’ Nkambule, Simphiwe Manana and South Africa’ striker Tshepo Chaine, who signed in January during the second window registration period. All these players had their contracts coming to end this month and sources said they would be allowed to leave the team. The duo of Mkhweli and Nkambule have struggled for game time  since South African Coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala replaced now Green Mamba Coach Ernest Mavuso. A source close to the matter confirmed that the players contracts’ would not be renewed.

Released

“There are a number of players who will be released after their contracts expire and they are yet to meet the team Management Committee (MC). Highlanders are looking at recruiting new blood, as they will be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup,” he said. Mkhweli joined Highlanders from rivals, Mbabane Swallows last October. He was released at ‘Birds’ alongside Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko, who was later reinstated. Mkhweli had a great experience in the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) tournaments, as he played in the group stages of both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup while at Mbabane Swallows.

He is among the few local players to have played for the big three teams; Swallows, Highlanders and Manzini Wanderers. “Mlaba is frustrated at the team due to lack of game time and he wants out of the club and it looks like they are ready to release him with defender Manana, who also played very few games in the past season.

Score

Chaine did not score even a single goal for Highlanders since he joined in January. The latter is also expected to be released, said the source. Highlanders are hoping to keep their South African stars in Kenneth Moloto and Tony ‘Ben 10’ Machacha, who both had a good season with the black and white outfit. A player, who preferred to comment on condition of anonymous, said if the team was interested in their services they could have engaged them by now.

Highlanders Public Relations Officer Mandla Madonsela, who was reinstated in the new MC announced on Saturday by Director Ally Kgomongwe, said they were yet to meet the technical bench and finalise the squad as part of the agenda. “We are yet to deliberate on that issue with the technical bench and see their programme for the new season, then we will be in a better position to know who is coming in and going out of the club,” he said.
Highlanders can sign up to 40 players for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
