SA PIRATES PUT 6 PAST ’LANDERS
MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of South Africa’s DStv Premiership side Orlando Pirates in an international practice match played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium yesterday.
The 2021/22 MTN Premier League runners-up are currently in pre-season preparations ahead of their busy schedule in the upcoming 2022/23 season.
They were in South Africa playing a series of international practice matches last weekend against DStv Premiership Champions Mamelodi Sundowns and they were beaten 10-0 in aggregate as they played two games.
Practice
The black and white capital city giants also played another practice game against Polokwane City Rovers and it ended in a goalless draw. ‘Inkunzi Emnyama’ returned to South Africa to continue with their pre-season preparations to play against Orlando Pirates and they were thrashed 6-0. The team’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mandla Madonsela, confirmed the scoreline, but said they were not concerned about it.“We got a good practice match against Orlando Pirates and we have learnt a lot. These South African teams are way forward as compared to us in all aspects of the game,” Madonsela said.He said the practice matches that they had played with the South African giants Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns would go a long way in helping them as they would be participating in the 2022/23 TOTALEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Assure
“Let me assure our supporters that we will be better than a lot of teams in the country and we will push hard to reach the level that we want going forward,” he said. He also said they had a few foreign and local players that they were assessing during the games, but the final judgment was left with the coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala in terms of the trialists. He further said their Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe was working hard to organise other international games ahead the new season. The Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala-led side will be in action in the 2022 Bible Society Cup against Denver Sundowns on Saturday at Mavuso Sports Centre.
