VOVOVO SELLING PREMIER LEAGUE STATUS!
MBABANE – Former Vovovo Director Mehluli Nhlengetfwa has let go of his grip on the team, as he finally signed out as director.
This has helped to facilitate the reported sale of the team status to National First Division side Nsingizini Hotspurs, who have all along been linked with the acquisition of the status of the Motshane-based side.Nhlengetfwa, who took over Vovovo’s directorship with the blessing of the late team boss Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe, confirmed having endorsed his signature along the dotted lines in the presence of Bhembe’s wife and an attorney identified as Hlophe, last Friday in a private meeting held at the Swazi Plaza in Mbabane. This publication reliably gathered that Nhlengetfwa’s signature was the only thing that was holding back the proposed sale of the team to the National First Division side that was willing to acquire Premier League status after narrowly failing to acquire promotion, despite being crowned NFD League First Round champions.
Dream
Meanwhile, it was reliably gathered that Hotspurs were willing to dig deep into their pockets for their dream of playing in the big stage of local football. Following the reported agreement on the sale of the team between the two parites, the deal will only become final once approved by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) during their annual general meeting penned for August 13, 2022. “After having a meeting with the Bhembe family members, who are in the team’s structure, I saw it fit to sign off where I needed to in order to continue with the agreement ethics. As I promised the late Director Mr Bhembe, the team will continue playing in Premier League and hope that those who will take over will realise Bhembe’s dream of keeping Vovovo alive and playing in Premier league,” Nhlengetfwa said.
Meanwhile, a Vovovo official who preferred to comment on terms of anonymity disclosed that the transition of Vovovo to Nsingizini was in progress as the players had already relocated to Nhlangano, which is Nsingizini’s home base. The well-informed source also disclosed that Nsingizini had forwarded a proposal to the Premier League of Eswatini, requesting for the team’s name change. However, Magwegwe Dlamini, who is Chairman at Vovovo, surprisingly denied the reports of requesting the name change despite being confirmed by well-informed Premier League insiders.
“PLE Club registration and Club Licensing is processed by EFA,” said PLE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya had this to say. Contacted on the matter Nsingizini Hotspurs’ Marketing and Communications Officer Mphikeleli Dlamini declined to comment. “I have no comment on this matter,” he said. Hotspurs are led by Managing Director (MD), Derrick Shiba. Also in their structure is former Sihlangu Manager Jossiah ‘Digger’ Dlamini, among others. If Hotspurs’ bid becomes successful, they will become the second local team to buy a Premier League team’s status in the last five years. Back in 2018, Lubombo Super League outfit, Mhlume Peacemakers bought their way into the MTN Premier League after purchasing the status of then Matsapha United. Four years later, Peacemakers are heading back to the regions after failing to preserve their status in the country’s football second-tier.
