D. SUNDOWNS TO SIGN TWO NIGERIANS
MBABANE – They are aiming to bolster their squad.
This is Denver Sundowns, who have lined up two Nigerian players for the upcoming 2022/23 football season, as they try to beef up their squad.
The Manzini-based side after releasing five players, who were part of the side that finished the 2021/22 MTN Premier League season on position 11 on 34 points, five behind relegated Milling Hot Spurs, is looking at adding quality players this time around.
The team released the skillful Mancoba ‘Spider’ Maseko, Mduduzi Khumalo, Issa Sarry, Mohamed Kabia and defender Makhosi Mtsetfwa last month. Basop Ikappa Kappa, as the team is fondly known had its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elvis Dube reveal that they were waiting for the two Nigerians to arrive next week.
Scrutinised
“Initially, we were expecting three, but after we scrutinised them, we decided against the third one who is a defender as we are currently monitoring another defender locally,” Dube said. He disclosed that one of the two players from Nigeria was a deadly striker and the other a winger, but he did not want to reveal their names and the teams that they played for back in their native country. He further said they were not ready to release their young players, especially Langelihle Dlamini and Siphamandla Maseko, who are currently with the national Under-23 team. Dube said they had bigger plans for the players beyond the borders of Eswatini. He also said pre-season preparations were going smoothly.
