‘BIRDS’ TO MEET NEW SA BOSS
MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows have found their man.
After a sanction to scout and bring in a co-director, the Beautiful Birds are set to become the first beneficiaries of the Simunye (We are one) group. Simunye is the union of Eswatini’s ‘Big 4’ teams in Mbabane Swallows, Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers and Moneni Pirates. Swallows met their potential new director, whose name is currently withheld, but they are reported to have met in Durban, South Africa ahead of the Highlanders and South Africa’s Royal AM TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2022/23 preliminary round second leg, last Friday afternoon, that saw the local side lose 0-2.

A source close to the matter said Highlanders Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe, is the one assisting Swallows to bring in the new director, who is expected to be in the country this week to meet some of the officials of the team. “It’s too early to say anything and besides, it’s another team so I can’t be talking about their affairs for now,” Kgomongwe responded when reached for comment yesterday. Swallows are reported to have had 10 people meet with the potential new director led by their General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane. Sources said this was part of the Simunye group’s benefits, which is chaired by Kgomongwe. “We are coming down next week (this week) to look at the team and see what we can change to improve it and be competitive. Everything else will be communicated while we are there with the team’s management and we are playing on October 1 in the league,” said a source close to the potential director.
The potential director is said to have been informed that the team had all the basics of a club in terms of training ground, clubhouse and bus (Sprinter), to which he was impressed. Swallows General Manager Zwane said since Bishop Lukhele took over the team, he had been open to a co-director and his hands were always open. “We have our president and he’s the one we knows. He’s the one to tell the public if what you’re talking about is there. That’s how it is at Swallows, but yes, the president is meeting some people and he opened his hands for anyone wanting to assist,” Zwane said. He then thanked Kgomongwe for the treatment he gave them as Simunye chairman, while they had gone to support him and Highlanders against MaMkhize’s Royal AM. “Worth mentioning is that Swallows have had their struggles ahead of the upcoming 2022/23 domestic football season.
