MBABANE – The upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar will be broadcast live on Eswatini Television (TV).

This follows the station, Eswatini Television Authority (ESTVA) partnering with Eswatini Mobile to broadcast live the much-anticipated world football showpiece, the biggest sporting event in the world of sports, the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar. In 2018, the FIFA World Cup final was viewed by 1.12 billion viewers worldwide, a far greater figure than any single day or event during the Olympics. This suggests that World Cup has greater audience retention levels when compared to the Olympics, as more people are invested in the progress of the tournament. This is according to Google mid this year.

Meanwhile, the football fest will be held in November 20 to December 18. Eswatini Mobile has already provided over E190 000 for Eswatini TV to broadcast these scintillating games, to ensure emaSwati had the privilege of watching the matches. “Our viewers will not miss even a single game of the World Cup in Qatar and I would like to also invite them to our fan parks with Eswatini Mobile, where they will not only watch soccer as there are other entertainment acts planned,” ESTVA’s Corporate Affairs Mncedisi Mayisela said yesterday. Eswatini Mobile’s Marketing Manager, Cynthia Simelane said it was part of the company’s social responsibility to promote sport and at the same time ensure that emaSwati had fun.

Meanwhile, the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the 22nd edition and is the quadrennial international men’s football championship contested by the senior national teams of the member associations of FIFA.  The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification was the qualifying process which decided the 31 teams that will join hosts Qatar, who received an automatic spot, at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, Eswatini, as always will be spectators as qualification to the big tournaments even at continental level remains a dream.
