Nhlangano – The pending MTN Premier League match between Nsingizini Hotspurs and Tambuti FC  was called off yesterday afternoon after the latter failed to show up.

The game was scheduled for King Sobhuza ll Memorial Stadium yesterday afternoon. This was after the visiting side, Tambuti failed to honour the game and after 30 minutes, the officials instructed Nsingizini that the game was called off with the assurance that the bizarre circumstances would be detailed in their report to the league. The Lubombo-based side is now likely to forfeit the match and face a possible fine of not less than E50 000  and  further forfeit three points to the opposition team, as per Article 7 of the MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations.
“Where a game is abandoned by the conduct of a team participating in this competition or its players, fans, officials and/or supporters and after a disciplinary hearing the team is found guilty of having caused the abandonment of the game, then such team shall lose the match, with three points and three goals awarded to their opponents. Further, the team shall be liable to pay a fine of not less than E50 000 if the team is a first offender and a fine of not less than E100 000 if the team is a second offender” reads part of the rules. Match Commissioner Sipho Kunene said he was not the right person to comment on the incident, but that the PLE office should be contacted.

Preparation

Meanwhile, Nsingizini head Coach Gerald Phiri said as a team they were looking forward to the match in preparation for the titanic clash against Mbabane Swallows on Sunday. “We were looking forward to the match in preparation for our weekend game against Swallows on Sunday,” he said. The match, scheduled to start at 3pm was called off at 3:30pm and Nsingizini remained behind to  train at the stadium. This is the second time the game has been abandoned. It was first called off over a month ago due to a faulty lighting system at Somhlolo National Stadium. Efforts to obtain a comment PLE proved futile as PLE Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Makhanya’s phone rang unaswered when called.
