TOP REFS OUT OF MTN LEAGUE ACTION
MBABANE – Out of the country for international duty.
Local referees continue to be considered for the big stage beyond the country’s borders. With that said, two top referees in the land are currently away in Malawi for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Under-17s Championship. The games are expected to run until December 10, as they are part of the Region 5 Youth Games.
The referees are Thokozani Dlamini and the award-winning Thembinkhosi Dlamini. Their trip comes just after the return of Letticia Viana from a big assignment. Viana is fresh from officiating in the video assistant referee (VAR) section of the FIFA Under-17s Women’s World Cup in India from October 11 to 30. Notably, FIFA Referees Instructor Felix Tangawarima, who was in the country in October implored local referees to follow in Viana’s footsteps. Tangawarima is also a COSAFA Technical Team member.
Meanwhile, Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Marketing and Communications Manager Muzi Radebe confirmed that the referees were part of the Region 5 games. “We would like to congratulate the referees for the appointment for international assignments. We hope it will help them grow and will also motivate the young referees who will look up to them in their career,” Radebe said.
