ESWATINI OFF TO SLOW START
MBABANE – No dream start.
Eswatini men’s Twenty20 (T20) team had their hopes for a dream start in the sub-region Africa Group B qualifiers ruined, as they suffered a defeat to Ghana in their opening game. Eswatini lost their first game, as the opposition won by 24 runs after a final score of 154/5. Eswatini went into the clash as underdogs by virtue of their rankings.
The country is ranked 82nd, while Ghana is 54th out of 83 in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings. Eswatini had won the toss and bowled first in this first game of the 2023 ICC World Cup (WC) qualifiers played at IPRC Stadium in Rwanda yesterday. Despite putting a good fight in the game, the country was unlucky to lose.
However, Eswatini batsman Adit Brut had an outstanding performance, as he scored 53 runs in the game.
Meanwhile, the Delisa Malinga-led team later redeemed themselves in the second match against Gambia later on the day. Which Eswatini won by five wickets.
