‘BIRDS’, LEOPARD IN CLASH OF THE WOUNDED
MBABANE – This is one fixture that could go a long way in defining the championship chances for Mbabane Swallows and the contrary for defending champions Royal Leopard.
These two strong rivals have at some point before 2018 competed pound for pound in terms of winning tournaments in the country, but Swallows fell out after their demise of their Chairman Victor Gamedze. They are not yet up to the same level they were in back then but are having a better run this season with last Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to rookies Nsingizini Hotspurs, their first in 25 matches, which stretch to last season.
Swallows will be home away from home in the fixture billed for the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano. Kick-off is 2:30pm. These two football giants come into the game with heavy hearts after losing their previous fixtures to newcomers Madlenya and Nsingizini Hotspurs. ngwemabalabala as Leopard are also fondly known, had their reputation tarnished by minnows Madlenya, who beat them 3-2. Whenever Swallows and Leopard clash, it is bound to be fireworks. In their last meeting last season on April 16, Swallows celebrated a 3-2 victory to make up for their first round 0-1 defeat to Leopard. The police side dominated Swallows in both rounds in 2021.
Meanwhile, leaders Young Buffaloes have the task to win against unpredictable Madlenya in their 3pm meeting at KaLanga Technical Centre, following a disappointing draw with Moneni Pirates in a grueling match last Sunday. The full fixture is listed with Mbabane Highlanders set to host Tambuti but without their hordes of supporters, as they were banned for one match following an attack in referee Mbongeni Shongwe over a week ago. There will be also games in the MTN National First Division League on Saturday and Sunday, where the fight for promotion to the top flight continues.
