ESWATINI IN E430K FINA WORLD RECORD CHANCE
MBABANE – The Eswatini swimming trio stand a chance to win nearly half a million Emalangeni if they manage to break a record in the Swimming World Championships.
National swimmer Simanga Dlamini, Reya Young and Cameroon Jele are billed for the championships that are heading to the sunny cost of Melbourne, Australia for the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). The event will be held at the fantastic Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), scheduled to take place from December 13-18, 2022.
The championships will be staged over six days with heats in the morning sessions and the semi-finals and finals in the evening session. The total prize money for the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Melbourne 2022 is 2.16 million US Dollars (E37 044 972) for the best ranked swimmers in individual events and for the best ranked relay teams in relay events.
Prizes
Prizes range between 10 000 US Dollars (E171 678.50) and 2 000 US Dollars (E34 264.74) for individual and relay Heats for positions one to eight. There will also be 25 000 US Dollars (E432 522.50 as per yesterday’s currency exchange rate) paid to the swimmers establishing each new World Record during the programme of the championships. Coach Welcome Nhlabatsi said the team was locked and read for the championships, following weeks of preparations in local competitions and last week’s Mpumalanga Swimming Championships where Eswatini brought home a total of 25 medals including 11 gold, 10 silver and four bronze.
The coach acknowledged the high standards of the competition but assured the swimmers’ readiness. He also thanked everyone, who continued to support the team including parents, swimming clubs and sponsors such as Khuba Traders, which presented them with E6 000 worth of uniforms comprising of tracksuits, t-shirts and shorts.
“The World Championships standards are too high for us; we hope to attain those levels in future. We are sending a youthful team through the preparations we’ve had, they are ready for the competition.
Thank you to everyone who has supported and continued to support us, including parents and Mavuso Sports Centre that allowed us to use the facility for practice sessions,” Nhlabatsi said.The team left the country yesterday morning for the championships by road to South Africa to connect a flight from OR Tambo International Airport to Melbourne, Australia. Below is a list of the prize money that will be equally distributed to men and women for both individual athletes and relay teams from first to eighth place.
