UEDF NETBALL TEAM COLLAPSES OVER ARMY RECRUITMENT
MBABANE – End of the road.
A giant has fallen in netball. That is Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF) male netball team that has since collapsed. The army side just dismantled when the Eswatini National Netball Association (ENNA) League was to enter the second round. They were playing in the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) elite netball league. According to a source, the team is facing serious internal problems, which have resulted in some of the players deserting the team. In fact, they are said to have remained with only two players. They played the first round and finished fourth in the five-team league.

It was reliably gathered that a majority of the departed players were not happy on being left out of the recent army recruitment excercise. Meanwhile, UEDF coach Roster Lukhele, could only admit to the challenges faced by the team, but she did not want to go into details. “Of course, there are some challenges which have forced us out of action and we would like to apologise to our fans and the association. They caught us off-guard but I’m hopeful that we’ll bounce back next season well organised and better,” Lukhele said briefly. On another note, ENNA member of Management Committee (MC) Gcebile ‘Bizzah’ Dlamini said the MC was aware of the UEDF crisis, and for that they would not be penalised for abandoning the league, as they communicated with them. Dlamini also believed that UEDF will quickly put up their house in order as the association is on a mission to increase male teams.
