MBABANE – Eswatini Football Coaches Association (EFCA) is unpleased by the dress code of rookies Madlenya’s manager.

This was revealed by EFCA Secretary General (SG) Musa Mamba after this publication wanted to know, who was registered with the association as the rookies’ coach. The manager, who was in shorts, was seen executing coaching duties during an MTN Premier League match between Madlenya and log leaders Young Buffaloes at KaLanga Technical Centre this past Saturday. The game ended in 1-all draw. Mamba, who was also watching the game, revealed that his office did not recognise the manager, as they knew William ‘Baggio’ Gamedze, as Madlenya’s official mentor.

“Madlenya has a coach, ‘Baggio’; unfortunately I think due to his situation, he cannot execute his job well. Automatically, the team finds itself coached by a team manager,” Mamba said. He said what was happening at the rookies’ made the product of the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) dragged down as they were not at all happy about how the person was dressed during the match.

“This is a disgrace to us who are responsible for coaching in the country, seeing someone, who calls himself a coach, dressed in that way. We don’t want those to come after us to find the profession a laughing stock,” he said.
Mamba also said this was not an issue for EFCA only, but all the relevant football stakeholders including Eswatini Football Association (EFA) and PLE.

“We are all equally responsible for this, the team is currently playing good football and they are getting the results, but if they don’t meet the conditions of club licensing in terms of technical development, it is going to be a challenge to them,” he said.

Mamba stressed that if somebody was shouting orders from the sidelines, this did not mean coaching. “Coaching is the preparation of the team at training and guiding them as they play,” he clarified. He finally said it was beyond their control to bring the manager to order because as an association, they did not know him.
