SHOCK AS POOL STAR ON POLICE WANTED LIST
MBABANE – Hub side Manzini Pool Club star Eddie Mondlane is wanted for alleged murder.
Formerly known as Eddie Mkhonta, the talented pool player, who started the sport at a young age, below 16 years alongside other household names such as national star Zweli ‘Siziba’ Dlamini and Siyabonga Dlamini, has found his name on the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) wanted list as a murder suspect. The player, aged 22 years, has been confirmed by the police to have allegedly murdered a person.
This is according to the Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, who referred this publication to their Facebook page but still confirmed that indeed, Mondlane was on their most wanted list. “The Royal Eswatini Police Service is seeking public assistance in locating Eddie Edmond Mondlane (22) of Hilltop who is wanted for murder,” read the post of REPS’ Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the Manzini Regional Pool Association (MRPA) Secretary Musa Dlamini said they were still shocked about the allegations levelled against the young talent. “We heard the news from some of the pool players. It started circulating last Friday. If this is true, then we must advise that he hands himself over to the police. We need Eddie. He is one of the talented players we have.
Serious
“If he hands himself to the police we can follow up on his matter. There is no way we tolerate such violent conduct in the country. We sincerely pray it’s not the truth that he committed such a serious crime,” said the secretary while also indicating they would meet and probably see how they could assist the player here.
Asked if they had deliberated as an association, he said: “We have not deliberated about it but will be meeting tomorrow (today). We have a tournament in Bhunya which plays tonight and tomorrow, that’s where we will then talk about it.”
Sources close to the matter alleged that, the player was assaulted by the victim who unfortunately died. The player is said to have run away and came back with his crew. They are alleged to have assaulted the deceased with bush knives before he was declared dead upon reaching the hospital.
