ESWATINI WOMEN CRICKET LOWLY RANKED IN ICC
MBABANE – Eswatini is just three ranks above the bottom line in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s rankings.
Eswatini Women’s Twenty 20 International (T20) is ranked 50th out of 53 nations according to rankings of the non-test playing nations released on Tuesday. They have been ranked for nine games that they have played where they did not accumulated a point or got a rating. Meanwhile, the male’s team were ranked 83rd out of 85 countries.
For the women, the ranking means that the country is better than Norway, Peru and Singapore in the sport. This position makes Eswatini women’s cricket the least ranked among 12 African female teams appearing in the rankings. South Africa is the best in the continent after ranking highest while they are fifth globally.
Teams improve their ranks by playing more games besides the ICC tournaments. Eswatini had played bilateral games with Mozambique this year, where the former lost. Eswatini Cricket Association (ECA) Chief Operations Officer (COO) Mandla Dlamini said the country needed to ensure to play and win the bilateral series next year to improve the ranks. He said these were positive rankings judging by the fact that some other countries did not even qualify to be ranked. He believed that winning the bilateral games would also make the nation eligible to even play the qualifiers.
