CALEB TO GET ‘BISHOP’S TRANSFER KITTY
MBABANE – “Our President, Archbishop Bheki Lukhele is someone who supports everyone he has appointed. Caleb is now our head coach and will get supported.”
This was the response by Mbabane Swallows’ General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane when he was questioned about their new head coach, Caleb Ngwenya making new signings next month during the January transfer window. Ngwenya was unveiled alongside new physical trainer and team legend Siza ‘King Pele’ Dlamini on Thursday afternoon.
The question also involved the element of Ngwenya wanting to add to the squad his own kind of players who were mainly youngsters as seen when he led Vovovo last season. It is an open secret that Umkhonto KaShaka have some senior players who have reached their final days after achieving it all domestically and left a mark continentally. They also have some young players, but it has been the senior stars who had been the difference. Already, some fans on social media platforms are anticipating Ngwenya may want to sacrifice some of the ageing stars for younger talent.
Ranks
Such players in the senior ranks are Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko, Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze, Sifiso Mabila, Sandile Hlatjwako, Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza, Xolani ‘Papi’ Sikhondze, Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze and Felix Badenhorst. “The archbishop has said it clearly that he will support the technical bench fully as he wants to see the team improve and achieve locally and internationally. We’re happy to see that in the CAF rankings, we’re still leading locally and that’s what the archbishop wants to see us playing so he will support Caleb and his technical bench. We will also be fully behind the technical bench,” ‘Beyond 2000’ said as he responded on national radio, Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) during yesterday morning’s Sport Show hosted by Moses ‘Mthetho’ Matsebula.
The same question about boosting the squad was posed to Ngwenya during the unveiling on Thursday, the GM responded on his behalf, reiterating the team President, Lukhele’s statement that the technical bench will be supported in every way possible, suggesting that Ngwenya would be allowed to assess the squad and make recommendations to boost here and there.
Requirement
The second transfer window opens on January 16 until mid-February to allow teams to boost their squads, part ways with players they deem surplus to requirement ahead of the second half of the MTN Premier League season. Meanwhile, Ngwenya only told the media that he understood Swallows were a big team and that he was going to see how it all worked out and how far he could take the club. The GM was later called about his earlier comments on national radio but asked to call back later. However, that did not happen and another effort to get him hit a snag.
