EZULWINI UTD SINKS B. SWALLOWS, JUMPS TO 2ND SPOT
MBABANE – Ezulwini United edged Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows 1-2 in an MTN National First Division (NFD) played yesterday.
The visitors scored in each stanza to redeem themselves from last week’s defeat to Ludzeludze Killers in the same venue, giving former Mbabane Swallows physical trainer Siyabonga Bhembe his first win in two games since joining United. Bhembe was on the bench this time around after he was ‘removed’ from the technical bench on his first game due to technical challenges as he did not appear on the team list.
The heat did not have any effect, as the sides displayed entertaining football, former Mbabane Highlanders star Mpucuko ‘Smoothies’ Dlamini broke the deadlock against the run of play a minute after the hour-mark, after picked up by Velaphi Dlamini inside the box. The game went for a breather with the home team trailing but with signs that they could regain their footing in the restart of the match.
Indeed, Crooks’ side returned recharged with two half time fresh legs. They forced United to seat back and be cautious of a quick equaliser. Just five minutes before the hour-mark, Jonathan Baofa levelled matters connecting brilliantly a cross delivered by Wandile Sacolo. The host thought to have taken the lead 10 minutes later, through Mfundo Simelane, but the goal was ruled for an offside.
The visitors eventually claimed all the three points in the 75th minute through Mncedisi Dlamini, who looped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper after he was teed-up by Simphiwe Makhanya with a nice pass. The result saw United level with top of the log Rangers on 16 points, it was more woes for Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe’s side as the they remain deep in drop zone, second placed from the bottom.
